99 Things to Do In San Francisco Before Kindergarten, Part 8: Sticking Around the House Like a San Franciscan

December 01, 2008

I'm closing in on the this list of a hundred things every San Francisco kid must do. This week, I thought I'd stay at home and write up some S.F.-inflected indoor activities.

71. Have a face-painting and dressup party. (Nothing says San Francisco like a feather boa.)
72. Make homemade presents for your friends and relations -- very post-consumerist!
73. Plant a California native plant garden -- get seed from Larner or (if you're doing a big order) plants from Bay Natives.
74. Bake some San Francisco sourdough bread -- the Exploratorium has a sourdough starter recipe.
75. Two words: wall mural!
76. Watch a San Francisco kids' movie. (Only Homeward Bound II comes to mind. Any others I'm missing?)
77. Get fabric at Britex or the Inner Sunset Discount Fabrics (that's the location wtih the best "kids'" selections) at make a San Francisco quilt.
78. Read some San Francisco-themed kids' books.
79. Roll some homemade sushi! (You can pick up supplies at Japantown ahead of time.)
80. Craft the Golden Gate Bridge from toothpicks or popsicle sticks. (Or just get the puzzle.)
