January Wrapup

January 30, 2009

After the financial strain of December and given the current climate, we took January as a month to think about spending less and doing more. I started a series on child-friendly hikes with a focus on the lighthouse at Point Bonita. Another low-cost and pleasantly uncrowded outing is to visit the goats at the zoo; and, of course, don't forget the beach  during this oddly temperate winter.

Speaking of seasonal events, we're still in the middle of the celebrations of this week's Chinese New Year, and as long as we're at it, check out this post on how to get your kids using chopsticks

I've always felt it's too easy to go overboard with "child safety" to the point where it obstructs learning: I described the antidote in a post called "Power Tools for Toddlers." And, if you love to cook with your kids, check out my tortilla recipe -- it's easy and fun.

That takes care of January -- stay tuned for another Savvy month of tips and events for you and your preschoolers!
